No issue is as important in weight loss as control of portion size. One could eat just about any high calorie food if portions could easily be limited. The successful dieter recognizes that, especially in times of stress, controlling portions of many pleasure producing foods is crucial and will power is almost never strong enough to limit these types of foods. ![]() The foods above have no easy way to control the portions. Eating a hand full of nuts or a scoop of ice cream can result in disaster for many. High calorie foods with portion control problems include nuts and seeds, chips, cheese, crackers, cookies, cake and ice from large containers. Weight loss can be much easier when one gives up the “willpower issue,” and simply chooses foods where the the container is the whole portion. A high protein bar makes a much better choice than a of a bunch of cookies crackers, nuts or seeds which are eaten from a bag or bottle Here the portion is the whole protein bar After eating the bar the snack is finished It takes much more effort to get up and get another bar than to reach your hand into a bag of cookies or crackers or a jar of nuts for a second helping. Portion control with a small yogurt, cottage cheese or better yet low calorie ice cream bars are far easier than trying to eat only a scoop of ice cream out of a pint, quart or ½ gallon container. Portion control of potentially high calorie snacks using the container as the portion prevents conscious or even unconscious over eating. |
