Most diet books are written by the "skinny" experts--born skinny they tell you  to eat foods they like to eat-"health foods:"  oils,  nuts, seeds, pure juices, fresh vegetables and fruits. They look forward to exercising every day. In part 4 of the 5 part series, What is "The Best Diet for 2009?"  a warning is raised to the dieter. Look at the label and consider the calories and your ability to control portions.

Here is a comparison of the 3 most "Healthy" looking, where portion can out of control and add hundreds of extra calories:

Whether these foods will prevent cancer, heart disease, diabetes or strokes in 15- 20 years is unclear. What is clear is careless eating of these foods can add 10 or more pounds per year without any effort. Adding 10-12 lbs. per year increases your waist by 2 inches, and increases all of the
consequences of obesity by 20%.

We arrived at this quagmire?
We have been  confusing "healthy" with low calorie and trying to imitate skinny people and skinny diet book authors who not only like eating these foods, but have no problems with portion control and love to exercise.

Diet Book Authors Are All Skinny and Love to Exercise & Eat "Healthy" Foods:
Whether they are trainers, dietitians or even physicians, they are almost always skinny people. This stereotypical rumpled,  long, lanky person who never had a weight problem in their life tells overweight people struggling to lose weight to do what they do-eat less and exercise more. After all, they  are sure its all a matter of will power.  They like to eat nuts, seeds, pour olive oil on everything and drink a glass of red wine a night and are sure that if an overweight person did it, they too would be thin.

Skinny Diet Book Authors Were Born Thin:

It's not the exercise, the  almonds, olive oil, flax seeds, whole grains but the genes that made the authors thin. They were simply born of  thin parents! Albert Stunkard, an obesity expert from the University of Pennsylvania, says that 70% or more of a person's weight is from inheritance. The tendency to a certain weight is more strongly inherited than any other tendency including mental illness, breast cancer or heart disease.

Stunkard  proved these theories in his  famous study of adoption and obesity.  When babies born of fat parents were placed into homes of skinny people, they became obese just like their biologic parents. Their weight had no relation to the weight of the adoptive parents who that lived with since an infant.

Healthy foods that are advocated as the answer to  overweight people' s problems. Most of them are high calories with no easy portion control.

Most skinny diet book authors are skinny because they were simply "born skinny." Skinny people  do not eat the kind of foods overweight people like to eat, the like to exercise and food has much less meaning in their life. They can open a can of nuts and be satisfied with 10 almonds.

Imitating Skinny People's Eating:
People do who are struggling to lose weight  often misunderstand this and try to  imitate skinny people hoping they too will become skinny. Often they don’t even like the new foods. What happens?

Like all of the foods they eat, they are unable to control the portions. They gain more weight eating so called. “healthy" foods.

Getting Fat Eating  'healthy" foods
Much has been written on the health benefits of so call "healthy: foods as olive oil, seeds, nuts, whole grains, fresh juices. But what  happens when overweight  people eat these foods?  They get fat!

Fat people can’t get skinny eating skinny people’s food.
They need to be themselves and find out why they are overweight and then simply make some better choices. They need to eat the foods they like or they will never lose weight and most important keep it off.

No one trying to lose weight needs to add extra food--"healthy" or not.
