Quick Report: Smoking and Weight Gain. February 2009: A surprising Finnish study casts doubts on the common assumption that smoking keeps people thin. Reporting in the February issue of the American Journal of Public Health, Dr. Suoma Saarni from the University of Helsinki found just the opposite - smoking may change the body’s metabolism and the processing of food resulting in weight gain.
For people who use smoking as a weight loss tool, the evidence is accumulating against them. They may end up with two serious problems. |
