"Millions of Americans are now eating cheap, unhealthy food who never thought they would be" says Adam Drewnowski Director of the Center for Obesity Research at the University of Washington in Seattle. They turn to their favorites – fried foods, chips, cookies, and ice cream. Even less want to shop for and spend the time preparing complicated, exotic and expensive recipes.
Affordability, accessibility, and convenience rank first in overweight people’s mind. To beat the obesity epidemic weight loss plans must offer more realistic alternatives for Americans who skip breakfast, drive thru McDonald’s for lunch and order a pizza from Dominos for dinner.
Hard times will surely make the obesity epidemic even worse if new weight loss plans do not offer workable, realistic solutions for everyone. Exotic and off the wall foods, however healthy, are for the elitists and are impractical for most of us. |
